The Dorchester Chamber was formed in during the First World War in 1917 and will celebrate its 90th birthday this year.  Recently renamed the Dorchester and District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, it is part of a larger organisation - the Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry now called "dorset business".

The Chamber plays an active role in the town and surrounding area, its views being sought on various issues by both the local authorities and the media.

As its title suggests, the Chamber represents many dfferent businesses as diverse as banking, restaurants, small one person enterprises, local branches of national chains, tourist attractions, hotels, taxi companies, industries such as building and construction, and professions like accountancy, medicine and law.

It is a well respected organisation but, like any other, only as strong and influential as its members make it.
